The cut-off date for Jeff Otah to pass his physical is tomorrow. But you wouldn’t know it based on talking to him.
The Jets newly-acquired right tackle told reporters he wasn’t sure when he’s supposed to take his physical. “I talked to the trainers. They don’t really know what’s going on,” said Otah, who didn’t inquire with the coaching staff. “So it’s one of those deals (where) I’m just working.”
Otah was placed on the active/PUP list last week after failing his physical following his trade from the Panthers. The Jets confirmed the offensive lineman has until July 31 to pass his physical, or the trade with Carolina will be voided.
But Otah said he feels good physically and “I feel like I can pass it.”
It’s hard to tell whether the tight-lipped tackle is simply aloof or just sick of answering questions about his impending test.
He continued his role as spectator Monday, doing agility drills under the watchful eye of a trainer. He also did pulling and sliding drills. When he’s on the sidelines, Otah said he takes mental notes of the plays and tries to “go through the motions” as if he’s alongside his teammates on the field.
“Yeah, it gets boring,” he admitted.
Otah said he anxious to get the test over with, but isn't worried about much – except getting healthy.
“If I do that, everything will take care of itself,” he said.
