Eric Smith (hip/knee) told reporters this week he planned to take things day-by-day. Well, based on his participation level during Thursday’s practice, the Jets safety appears to be progressing nicely.

After the team stretch, Smith joined his fellow defensive backs for some individual drills before moving on to the special teams portion of practice. The safety, who continues to wear a sleeve on his injured knee, appeared to run full-speed without any issues.

Jeremy Kerley (stiff lower back) began practice in the rehab area, where he did agility drills with tight end Dustin Keller (hamstring), RB John Conner (knee), LB Josh Mauga (rib) and CB Isaiah Trufant (ankle). Kerley eventually left the rehab group and did some individual drills with the wide receivers.

Nose tackle Sione Po’uha (back) and WR Stephen Hill (calf) participated in individual drills, as well, during the 20-minute viewing period allotted to media.

As expected, Darrelle Revis (concussion) did not practice. Instead he joined linebacker Bryan Thomas and offensive tackle Dennis Landolt on the bike circuit.
