The 49ers are in play for Darrelle Revis.
With a whopping 15 draft picks -- including five in the first three rounds -- San Francisco is eyeing a potential trade for the Jets' star cornerback, according to Yahoo! Sports.
The report, which cites "two sources," claims the Niners are among "a handful of teams" that have discussed going after Revis this offseason "even if it’s just for one season (although that could be problematic from Revis’ standpoint)."
However, ESPN's Chris Mortensen reported Thursday that a source told him the 49ers are not "inclined" to pursue Revis at this time.
San Francisco fell just short of a Super Bowl championship in New Orleans earlier this month, losing, 34-31, to the Ravens. The year before that, the 49ers lost in overtime, 20-17, to the Giants in the NFC title game.
But the good news for Niners coach Jim Harbaugh is his team is loaded with talent already. And now with 15 draft picks at the Niners' disposal, their front office theoretically has the means to acquire Revis.
The Jets are in desperate need of depth -- and San Francisco could potentially solve their problems. For a price, of course: a three-time All-Pro cornerback who has his own island.
