Revis on Johnson: He's the strongest receiver I've faced

Tall receivers have never been much of a problem for Darrelle Revis, who's shut down some of the best wideouts in the game with relative ease.

But Calvin Johnson presented a matchup unlike any other.

“My game plan was basically be physical with him,” Revis said via conference call. “I put him in the category of the big receivers – Terrell Owens and Randy Moss. But this guy, he’s a totally different guy. He’s very fast, very strong. The strongest receiver I had to face.”

The cornerback said he was forced to adjust his approach during the game after Johnson successfully used his strength to create space while running his routes. Revis’ softer, less aggressive, approach worked. Aside from his 13-yard reception in the beginning of the game, Johnson practically was a non-factor.

But holding him to one catch wasn't easy, admitted Revis.

“I think it might have been the toughest match-up for me, just because of how big Calvin is,” he said. “The guy should be playing in the NBA for how tall he is and how big he is. He’s a very physical guy. I think he’s top 3, top 5, and he don’t get enough credit as he should.”
