Darrelle Revis tried to make light of the issue, but as questions continued to mount over his uncertain contract situation, the Jets cornerback seemed to grow more and more frustrated.

After giving a noncommittal answer to an inquiry about a potential second holdout, Revis again was pressed about his intentions to join the team in Cortland for training camp.

“Whatever you want to write,” he told a reporter. “I just told you, I’m getting ready for this season. I’m getting ready for the season, that’s what I’m answering.”

When that same reporter mentioned Jets fans are curious to know if there are lingering issues between him and management, Revis said: “If something’s lingering, you will find out. If something lingers, you’ll find out. It’s going to be written. It’s going to be in the paper. I’m telling you, I’m getting ready for the season.”

Then he again was asked if another holdout is possible.

“It could. And at this point in time, I’m getting ready for the season,” he said. “Whatever happens in thefuture, happens. I just said that four or five times. Didn’t I say that? OK.”

A second reporter then asked Revis why he was choosing to leave the door open by refusing to give a definitive answer. The cornerback responded: “I’m not refusing nothing.”

Asked point-blank if he would be there for the start of training camp, Revis said: “I don’t know. That’s all I’m telling you. I don’t know. I don’t know if I am or if I’m not. I told you that a while back. So I’m getting ready for this season.”

Tension began to mount as neither Revis nor the two reporters backed down during the cordial, but uncomfortable, exchange.

“What’s the point?” Revis asked them. “I’m getting ready for the season. Why are you barking at me about this? You keep on just stabbing at the same thing. I don’t know if I’m going to be there or not. Why do I need to answer that to you?”

When the reporter replied: “I have a right to ask,” Revis retorted: “And I have a right to say what I got to say, right?”

Though Rex Ryan directed all inquiries about Revis’ contract negotiations to the cornerback and general manager Mike Tannenbaum, the head coach said he does expect Revis to be there for the start of training camp.

Whatever that’s worth.
