Rex Ryan refused to tiptoe anywhere near the Randy Moss discussion.
In an attempt not to say anything that could be viewed as tampering, the Jets coach kept quiet on Moss' impending release from the Vikings.
"We really can’t talk about Randy Moss until he passes through the waiver wire,” he said, “So I’m not going to touch that. I really can’t comment on him.”
Rumors of Moss being placed on waiversbegan circulating Monday afternoon. But as of 4 p.m. he was not on the wire list. His name likely will appear Tuesday afternoon, giving teams -- starting from those with the worst record -- 24 hours to put in a claim for him. The Jets (5-2) are 27th on the waiver wire.
“I’m not going to say one word,” Ryan said, when pressed about Moss. “I’m not going to say anything.”
The likelihood of the Jets going after the embattled wide receiver seems slim. For starters, there are several teams with spots to fill ahead of the them. And more importantly, where would they put him? They already have five receivers, including Brad Smith.
