Now that the Jets and Giants have been awarded the right to host the Super Bowl in 2014, players and staff from both squads are expressing their delight in the decision. You can read the Giants' remarks here. Here are the Jets':
General Manager Mike Tannenbaum
"We are incredibly honored, both as an organization and as a community, to have been awarded the Super Bowl. This is a chance for NFL fans to have a unique Super Bowl experience and enjoy one of the greatest cities in the world in the process.
"What’s more, we get a chance to showcase one of the league’s best new stadiums in the league’s most important game. A fitting stage for our new home."
Head Coach Rex Ryan
"To me it’s a no-brainer when you consider that this vote helps two teams, the Jets and the Giants. Add in the fact that you have as good a stadium as there is in the league and no one is going to complain about this not being a great Super Bowl, because you’re in the best city in the world. There is so much to do here in New York, obviously, the NFL made the right decision in my opinion."
I am thrilled about the opportunity to play a Super Bowl in New York. While it is always our goal every year, it would be extra special to make history in our own stadium.
I think it is a great opportunity for the New York Area to get to host the Super Bowl. I think the fans will love it. All around, it’s a great opportunity.
This is a great opportunity for the states of NY and NJ. We have the best city in the world and now we get to bring the biggest game in football here. We're making history with the first cold weather Super Bowl which will make the 2014 Super Bowl one people will always remember. New Meadowlands Stadium will be one of the best in the League and I'm excited for it to host the Super Bowl.
