Rex to Mangini: "You just made the list, buddy"

In typical fashion, Rex Ryan opened his Friday press conference by rattling off the injury report for Sunday’s game. But before he fielded questions from reporters, the Jets coach addressed a troubling incident.

“I understand Eric Mangini took a shot,” Ryan said. “He took a shot at me and it wobbled me. There’s no question about it. It staggered me. But I got one message to say to Eric Mangini: ‘You just made the list, buddy.’”

The coach then looked at his audience and said, “Name the movie. C’mon we all know it.”

“Stripes,” he said, somewhat disappointed.

In response to Ryan’s comments about Mangini’s weight loss Wednesday, the Cleveland Browns coach fired back with this clever one-liner about Ryan’s battle with the bulge: “I think everyone in New York is happy about that,” Mangini said, “except maybe Macy’s losing one of their floats.”

The Jets coach pretended to be hurt by the comments, but in fact, he thought they were pretty funny.

“Shoot, I’m surprised that he doesn’t do this all the time,” Ryan said with a smile. “That’s the Mangini I know. That was good. I liked it. That was a good one.”

As for the injury report for Sunday’s game vs. the Browns:

Probable: RB Shonn Greene (DNP due to a personal reason), CB Darrelle Revis (hamstring; full participation), Calvin Pace (foot; full), LG Matt Slauson (knee; full); RT Damien Woody (knee; full)

Questionable: LB Josh Mauga (hamstring; limited participation)

Out: CB Marquice Cole (hamstring; did not participate)

Ryan said Woody -- like LB David Harris -- injured his knee while lifting. Though the knee "swelled up on him a little bit," the coach said his offensive lineman is fine.

Ryan also defended the team's workout regiment.

“We’ll push our guys because at the end of the year, we want to be stronger than the rest of the teams," he said. "So we do push our guys harder. It’s not Club Med out there. …Things like that do happen in the weight room sometimes.”
