Rex Ryan never saw it coming. Neither did special teams coordinator Mike Westhoff.
On fourth-and-18 from their own 20, neither could have predicted Steve Weatherford's next move.
Instead of punting the ball deep into Green Bay territory, Weatherford gripped the ball tightly in his hands and scampered up the sideline -- intent on gaining serious yardage. He did, except it wasn't enough. Weatherford was knocked out of bounds just shy of the first-down marker.
“The two most shocked guys were me and Westhoff when he started running with it,” Ryan said Monday.
“It was like, ‘What are you doing?’ Then it was like, ‘Get the first, get the first, get the first.' Then, we’re sort and we tried to sneak an offensive play in before they challenged it. I knew it was going to be close. Clearly we have guts, but we’re not going to run it down there.”
