Kerry Rhodes indicated on his Twitter page last night that he's had some news regarding his future when he appeared on SNY's "Wheelhouse" today.
After both parties played coy Monday when asked about Rhodes' status, Rhodes just wrapped up his segment minutes ago and said he wants to remain with the team. And not just next season but for years to come.
"The situation is up to me and I like New York -- they drafted me," Rhodes said. "I've been here, I've made a lot of plays here for this team and been a very vital key to their success here. So I'm looking forward to doing that and and right now I'm going to be with the Jets. So that was the big thing."
Rhodes said he spoke with Rex Ryan, who was evasive about if Rhodes would be back when I asked him about it at his season-ending press conference, earlier today and said Ryan reiterated that he wants him back.
The two, according to Rhodes, are scheduled to meet soon after Ryan returns back from Senior Bowl activities in Mobile, Ala. and will go over some things, presumably so they can make sure they are on the same page with what Ryan is expecting from Rhodes.
"He wants me to be here and the organization wants me to be here," Rhodes said. "So it's a little bit of me humbling myself and talking to Rex some more and seeing what happens from there."
Rhodes, who's been beating around the bush about his offseason intentions since first getting demoted Nov. 24 and wasn't giving up any details even after regaining his starting role back, didn't hedge (much) when asked to clarify his preference.
"To be honest, I really do want to be here. This is where I want to be, this is New York," he said. "This is the team that gave me my first shot. I mean, a fourth-rounder. A lot of people passed up on me coming out but they gave me the shot. They gave me the big contract here. So I want to be here and all the fans know I want to be here. I'm just letting the fans know I do want to be here. I want to end my career here, end my career as a Jet.
"But sometimes circumstances happen, so there's going to be a little bit ot talk between us over the next couple of weeks. But I want to be here and the team wants me to be here. So we'll see."
