It's tough enough to be an NFL rookie struggling to find your way, but third-round running back Joe McKnight's troubles were captured for all to see on Wednesday night's second episode of "Hard Knocks" on HBO. McKnight heard pointed criticism from running backs coach Anthony Lynn and then listened to advice from veteran wideout Santonio Holmes.
After practice Thursday morning, McKnight said he didn't watch the episode but heard all about it from teammates, including Holmes. "Everybody goes through it," McKnight said of his growing pains. "I've been under a lot of scrutiny at USC. This is nothing different."
Asked how much he heard about his appearance, McKnight shrugged and said, "I heard everything. They told me word for word. Santonio told me. [The criticism] just tells me the coaches and players see something in me."
He's right about that. Now, it's his job to make the effort to display that talent on the field.
