Jets coach Rex Ryan said he wasn't sure if quarterback Mark Sanchez would be ready for Sunday's game against Atlanta.
During his Monday conference call, the coach said the rookie QB and backup Kellen Clemens would split reps in practice Wednesday.
Ryan said he would make his decision after he sees Sanchez's progress.
But it's almost a forgone conclusion the young quarterback will start, given the Jets' dire playoff picture. That is, unless he suffers a setback this week.
But no matter how crucial Sunday's game is, Ryan said he wouldn't rush Sanchez back to action. He will decide the starter based on feedback from his medical staff and trainers.
"The sooner the better. It may take a couple of days to figure it out," he said. "I'm not going to string it out. If Mark is going to be playing, I want him to get the majority of the snaps."
