How serious is Santonio Holmes’ foot injury? That is still to be determined.
At his news conference Monday afternoon, Rex Ryan wouldn't reveal much about the nature of the injury to the Jets’ leading receiver. X-Rays performed Sunday were negative.
Ryan said the Jets had “shipped around” the results of an MRI on Holmes’ foot to various physicians, who were trying to evaluate whether he had suffered ligament or muscle damage to his foot.
Holmes injured his foot in the fourth quarter of the Jets’ 34-0 loss to the San Franciscio 49ers on Sunday.
“Not sure how many weeks he’s going to be out or the extent of the injury,” Ryan said “We just know the x-rays were negative…..If it’s muscle, it could heal much faster. If it’s ligaments, it could take longer.”
Holmes was injured on the first play of the fourth quarter after he caught a short pass near the 49ers sideline. Holmes fell to the ground, losing possession of the ball. Carlos Rogers then returned the fumble for a touchdown as Holmes remained on the turf, clearly in pain.
