To no surprise, Santonio Holmes -- the Jets' top receiver -- is active for Sunday's regular-season opener against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Holmes had tempered expectations this week about his ongoing recovery from foot surgery. But his teammates and head coach have praised the veteran wideout's progress.
Perhaps Jets fans will get to see the Holmes-Revis matchup after all. Darrelle Revis, their former shutdown cornerback, will play for the Buccaneers.
Nose tackle Kenrick Ellis (back) also is active for the Jets -- but backup Damon "Snacks" Harrison still will get the start.
As expected, fifth-year quarterback Mark Sanchez is inactive due to a bruised joint in his throwing shoulder. The veteran QB was spotted during warm-ups throwing with his left hand (and no, he did not look good doing so).
OLB Quinton Coples (ankle), LB Danny Lansanah (who was promoted from the practice squad Saturday) and OLs Will Campbell, Ben Ijalana, Oday Aboushi and Scott Solomon also are inactive for the Jets.
OLB Garrett McIntyre will start in place of Coples.
