The Jets are one of a handful of teams interested in signing former Giants offensive lineman Kevin Boothe, a source confirmed to Newsday. But with the free agency period slowing down a tad in advance of this week's NFL owners meetings, talks regarding Boothe likely won't heat back up until midweek.
The Giants Carolina Panthers and Arizona Cardinals are all interested in signing the guard, the source said.
Boothe, 29, would instantly fill a need for the Jets, with free agents Brandon Moore and Matt Slauson expected to sign elsewhere. The Jets took a step toward plugging the holes on their offensive line Friday by signing free-agent guard/tackle Willie Colon.
Boothe started all 16 games last season for the Giants after spending the majority of his six-year tenure in New York as a backup. He's also played center, in addition to left and right guard.
Interestingly enough, the Giants have considered Slauson as a possible option at guard if they lose out on Boothe.
CBS Sports first reported the Jets' interest in Boothe.
