Free-agent offensive lineman Willie Colon has signed a one-year, $1.2 million deal with the Jets, a source confirmed to Newsday.
Colon -- a Bronx native and Hofstra alum -- was released by the Steelers earlier this week in a cost-cutting move that cleared $5.5 million in salary cap space.
With free agents Brandon Moore and Matt Slauson not expected to return to the Jets, Colon fills an instant need on the offensive line. The seven-year veteran, who has played both guard and tackle, should be a good addition to the Jets -- provided he can stay healthy.
He was placed on injured reserve in 2012 after undergoing knee surgery and has had each other the past three seasons curtailed by knee injuries.
