Former Chiefs inside linebacker Joe Mays is expected to sign with the Jets next week, a source confirmed to Newsday.

Mays, who turns 30 in July, spent the 2013 season in Houston while Jets general manager Mike Maccagnan was in the Texans' front office.

The Jets currently have veteran David Harris and former third-round pick Demario Davis at the inside linebacker position. But like many of Maccagnan's recent free-agent signings, Mays will bring added depth to the position.

A former sixth-round pick of the Eagles in 2008, Mays recorded 20 tackles in eight games (three starts) for the Chiefs last year. After two seasons in Philly, he spent time in Denver (2010-12) and Houston before playing the 2014 season in Kansas City.
