Tim Tebow (ribs) said he had X-rays taken on Sunday and hoped to be cleared for more active practice work this week.
"I'm trying to get there," Tebow said when told of Rex Ryan's remark that the quarterback was "nowhere near 100 percent."
Tebow was inactive on Sunday and watched as Greg McElroy replaced Mark Sanchez to throw a TD pass for the Jets' only points in a 7-6 win. Ryan said he would decide by Wednesday's practice as to whom would start on Sunday in Jacksonville, but it doesn't appear that Tebow has a chance to start in his hometown. He'd be far more likely to return to his wildcat offense/punt protector role if he's healthy enough.
"I don't know if that makes it any more important," Tebow said of the game in his hometown. "It's a special place for me, but you have to treat it as just another game."
Tebow did say he thought he could suit up on Sunday against the Cardinals. "It's more of a trainer-doctor-coach thing at this point," he said.
