According to the Jets, Chaz Schilens has not yet been cleared for contact.
Rex Ryan said Tim Tebow will be active Sunday against Arizona, but for now, the Jets are being precautious with their backup quarterback.
“We’ll see how he progresses during the week,” the Jets coach said Wednesday, adding that Tebow will be medically cleared to face the Cardinals “like he was last week.”
Ryan created hubbub when he activated Tebow last week against New England, despite knowing the quarterback had two fractured ribs. Tebow, however, didn’t see any action against the Patriots, while third-stringer Greg McElroy was inactive.
The Jets coach, however, didn’t give a clear indication whether he’s considered suiting up McElroy against the Cardinals. Ryan said McElroy will continue to take his regular scout-team reps or “maybe a little more.” But he wouldn’t say definitively that the third-stringer will be available against Arizona.
CB Aaron Berry (quad) and WR Clyde Gates (concussion) won’t practice, said Ryan. Berry, who was signed in early October, has played in just one game (vs. SEA) and has just two tackles.
Ryan wasn’t positive, but he believes WR Chaz Schilens (concussion, hip) will practice.
In addition to Tebow, NT Sione Po’uha (low back), WR Jeremy Kerley (heel, hamstring, illness) and LB Bart Scott (toe) also will be limited.
