Patriots defensive back Devin McCourty said the team is preparing for the Wildcat offense, even though the Jets barely used it last week.
“We’ve got to be prepared for it,” he said. “When you play in one game in any Sunday, it doesn’t matter how things have kind of gone throughout the season. Especially with the different guys that they use back there. That can turn into a big weapon for them. So we prepare the same way we prepare for any type of package that a team does. We have to be ready for it because if it shows up and it works, we’ll see a lot of it."
The name T** T**** never came up during the question or answer.
UPDATE: Bill Belichick was also asked a Wildcat question and the question did not mention the Jets' backup QB. Here's part of the answer:
"I think sometimes you've got to be careful about judging a couple plays individually. Obviously, the Jets have used some version of that package all year. And defensively it makes you prepare for it and spend time on it. Just like their fake punts and blitzes they use and things like that."
Also: "I think that they have a good package, obviously. Tim's an outstanding player. Can do a lot of things. There are a lot of different versions of that, the type of plays they run, the options, sweeps, throwing the ball, counters and misdirection plays and short-yardage and everything else. A defense definitely has to spent time preparing for it. The more time they spend on that, the less time they spend on something else."
