Former Stony Brook pass rusher Victor Ochi is scheduled to visit the Jets on Friday, a source confirmed to Newsday.
Though undersized for an NFL edge rusher, the 6-1, 250-pound Ochi has explosive power.
Fifteen NFL teams, including the Jets, attended Ochi’s March 28 Pro Day at Stony Brook where he did 22 reps of 225 pounds on the bench press. He clocked a 4.86 40-yard dash at the NFL Scouting Combine in February.
Ochi is projected to be a fifth- to seventh-round pick but could hear his name called earlier.
The former Valley Stream Central star became Stony Brook’s career leader in sacks (32 1⁄2) and tackles for loss (49).
ESPN draft guru Mel Kiper Jr. mentioned Ochi four times, unsolicited, during his February conference call with media.
“Certainly, Ochi from Stony Brook is a guy that I think you have to keep a real close eye on,” Kiper said. “This kid had big-time sacks in high school, again at Stony Brook and at the All-Star Game. He’s done it all.”
Ochi met with the Cardinals and Falcons last week.
