Wild-card playoff scenario for Jets

The Jets needed five things to happen Sunday to keep their wild-card hopes alive. It's a lot simpler in Week 17.

What you need to know about the playoff situation:

The Jets clinch the No. 5 seed in the AFC playoffs if they beat the Bengals on Sunday night.

A loss eliminates them from wild-card contention no matter what the other six contenders - Denver, Baltimore, Houston, Pittsburgh, Miami and Jacksonville - do.

If the Jets win, they probably will play the Bengals again in a wild-card game. If the Bengals and Patriots lose and finish 10-6, the Patriots probably will be the No. 3 seed (playing the No. 6 seed) based on the strength-of-victory tiebreaker. The Bengals would be the No. 4 seed and host the fifth-seeded Jets in a wild-card game.

The Jets cannot be the No. 6 seed.
