Kubiak safe now?

From the life’s-not-fair files: While Tom Coughlin faces a potential firing now that his team is 9-6 and in danger of missing out on the playoffs for only the third time in his seven seasons with the Giants, Texans coach Gary Kubiak is expected to be retained next season despite having zero playoff berths and a career record of 36-43.

The plan in Houston right now is to give Kubiak another year and have him hire former Cowboys coach Wade Phillips as his defensive coordinator. Forget the fact that the Dallas collapse this season had as much to do with the Cowboys’ defense as the collarbone injury to Tony Romo. Evidently, Texans owner Bob McNair is willing to let Kubiak off the hook for the team's defensive problems and give Phillips a shot to straighten things out.
