The Bengals play their final home game of the season on Sunday against the Chargers, and it might be the final home game – period – for wide receiver Chad Ochocinco.
The flamboyant and outspoken receiver, who is having ankle issues that could require off-season surgery and could keep him out of the lineup against the Chargers, is unlikely to return to the team next season. Ochocinco is under contract in 2011, but it’s at the option of the Bengals. If they want him on the roster, they’re required to pay him a $6 million bonus. If they let him go, they must pay him $3.5 million.
Considering the team’s willingness to release Antonio Bryant in training camp after giving him $8 million in guaranteed money during the off-season, it’s expected they’ll eat another $3.5 million to be done with Ochocinco, who turns 33 next month.
With Terrell Owens done for the year after suffering a knee injury, it's looking like both receivers will be playing elsewhere in 2011.
