League source on Revis report: "inaccurate"

While it remains to be seen whether the Jets do, in fact, hold a press conference on Wednesday to announce that holdout cornerback Darrelle Revis has been signed to a new contract, a league source familiar with the Revis situation characterized a Twitter post from Dallas Morning News columnist Tim Cowlishaw reporting a deal might be announced that soon as "inaccurate."

Cowlishaw wrote on his twitter account (@TimCowlishaw): "Revis and Jets announce new deal, probably Wednesday. You heard it here first. "Inside information!""

When I asked the source which elements he was referring to — the idea that an announcement would be Wednesday or that the two sides were close — the source replied: "All elements."

We won't know whether Cowlishaw's report is accurate for the next several days, but we trust our source on this one. Interestingly, Cowlishaw wrote on Twitter in reponse to a question from @NickSpano: "i was told they will announce it this week, not def wednesday but probably wednesday. This person has never been wrong."

Cowlishaw has a distinguished track record at the Morning News — especially during his days as the Cowboys' beat writer — so I don't doubt that he trusts his source.

We'll see what happens on this one: I feel the same way about my source, too.
