Peyton Manning is the most highly sought-after NFL free agent on the market right now, and plenty of teams are making their best pitch to bring the future Hall of Fame quarterback aboard.
Even one prominent basketball player is getting into the act.
Miami Heat star forward LeBron James would love to see Manning join the Dolphins.
“I’m just sayin’,” James said last night, per Mike Berardino of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel. “Dolphins need a quarterback, and Peyton’s available.”
James was asked if he was trying to recruit Manning to Miami.
“Oh, you guys heard me?” he said with a smile. “I gave my pitch, my one and only pitch. We’ll see what happens.”
James doesn’t Manning, but he does know he’d be a great fit on the Miami sports scene.
“No, not a friend of mine,” James said. “But I’m a Miami Heat player, and I want Miami sports to be great: The U (University of Miami), the Dolphins, the Marlins, the Heat, of course.”
More James: “Peyton Manning is a great player. No matter what happened this past year, his resume speaks for itself and it would be great to have him down here.”
Asked if a Dolphins team with Manning would take some attention away from the Heat, James said, “That’s not competition. That’s like you rooting for your family members. That’s not competition at all. It would be great to have him, but we’ll see.”
