Well, you knew this was coming at some point. That point is now.

The Bucs have benched quarterback Josh Freeman after an 0-3 start, and embattled head coach Greg Schiano has decided to go with rookie Mike Glennon. The news was first reported by Adam Schefter of ESPN.

Freeman had an absolutely miserable time of it his first three games, completing less than 50 percent of his passes and getting no spark out of the offense. This after a 2012 season in which he threw 27 passes and 17 interceptions. Through three games this year, he was 43-of-94 for 571 yards with just two touchdowns and three interceptions.

Not the kind of performance he was hoping for, especially because he's in the final year of his rookie contract. The Bucs will almost certainly move on without him next year, and Freeman may have played his way out of a chance to get a big contract in the off-season.

Glennon, meanwhile, will get a chance to show he deserves to be the team's quarterback of the future. A third-round pick out of North Carolina State, the 6-foot-7, 232-pound Glennon threw a combined 62 touchdowns and 29 interceptions in his two seasons as the Wolfpack's starter.
