With controversy continuing to swirl around the future of Washington head coach Mike Shanahan, he declined to address a report yesterday that indicated he was ready to leave the team after last season until Robert Griffin III suffered his knee injury in a playoff loss to the Seahawks.
"I'm not going to speculate through all those different things," Shanahan told reporters at today's news conference. "If you'd like to talk about Atlanta [Washington's opponent on Sunday], I'll be more than happy to talk about Atlanta."
Shanahan did say he spoke to team owner Daniel Snyder, and said their relationship is good. He did not talk about what they discussed.
"I've talked to Dan," Shanahan said. "Our conversation will stay between us."
There's already speculation that Snyder will attempt to hire Baylor head coach Art Briles once he fires Shanahan. Briles, who coached RGIII in college, recently signed a contract extension with Baylor and hinted he has no plans to leave.
Of course, $nyder can be very per$ua$ive when it come$ to luring $omeone to coach hi$ team, but time will tell if he can convince Briles to coach his college quarterback in the NFL.
