NFL issues heavy fines, but no suspensions to 3 players

The NFL promised swift punishment for players involved in controversial hits on Sunday, and the verdicts are in: Steelers linebacker James Harrison, Patriots safety Brandon Meriweather and Falcons cornerback Dunta Robinson were fined a combined $175,000.

Harrison was fined $75,000 for a hit on Browns receiver Mohamed Massaquoi, while Meriweather and Robinson were fined $50,000 for their helmet-to-helmet hits. Meriweather struck Ravens tight end Todd Heap, while Robinson hit Eagles wide receiver DeSean Jackson, who suffered a concussion on the play.

Harrison was fined more than the other two because of previous fines for over-aggressive hits.
