The NFL is reviewing allegations that quarterback Brett Favre sent explicit text messages and photos to former Jets sideline reporter Jenn Sterger when the two were with the Jets during the 2008 season.
“We are reviewing the matter,” NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said yesterday.
The website deadspin.com first reported the existence of the text messages and photos, and posted them on Thursday. Asked about the matter on Thursday at a news conference in Minnesota, Favre said, “I’m not getting into that. I’ve got my hands full with the Jets.”
It's uncertain what sanctions, if any, the NFL would impose on Favre or the Jets. If the league finds that Favre was in violation of the league's personal conduct policy, it could issue a suspension. If the Jets were found to have mishandled the situation, they would likely be fined.
Favre returns to the New York/New Jersey area for a Monday night game against the Jets. He played one season with the Jets before announcing his retirement after leading the team to a 9-7 record. Favre got the Jets to 8-3 before arm problems caused his play to slip.
