INDIANAPOLIS — Carolina Panthers general manager Dave Gettleman said his meeting with free agent receiver Victor Cruz “went fine.” But it clearly was not fine enough to get a deal done.

Gettleman so far is the only executive to have a meeting with Cruz since his release from the Giants last month. Gettleman was in the Giants’ front office when the team discovered Cruz as an undrafted rookie out of UMass in 2010, so the two did not need to be introduced.

“Obviously I have a history with Victor and we just shared ideas and wanted to get a physical on him,” Gettleman said. “Had him sit with the coaches.”

But no contract offer?

“We’re just going to continue to discuss it,” Gettleman said.
