Bengals wide receiver Chris Henry has died.
Henry died early this morning from injuries he suffered when he fell out of the back of a pickup truck during a domestic dispute in Charlotte, according to police. Henry died at 6:36 a.m. at Carolinas Medical Center, where he had been taken early yesterday afternoon. Police haven't released a cause of death.
Per the Charlotte Observer, officers were called to Oakdale Road near I-485 just before noon. When police arrived on the scene, Henry was lying on the road with life-threatening injuries.
Police say Henry was involved in a "domestic situation" with his fiancee on Peachtree Road. His fiancee, who police haven't named, got into a pickup truck and drove away from the home. As she was driving, police say, Henry jumped into the bed of the truck.
According to the Observer, a woman who answered the door and identified herself as the fiancee's mother but declined to give her name Wednesday said Henry and his fiancee had been staying at the house while he was on injured reserve and they were making plans for their wedding.
Henry was in his fifth season with the Bengals, and was on injured reserve for the remainder of the season with a shoulder injury. A talented receiver on the field, he'd had plenty of troubles off the field.
He had been suspended for 14 games for a variety of transgressions, including five arrests. Those arrests included supplying alcohol to three underage females, a concealed weapon charge involving allegations that he pulled a pistol on a group of revelers, and marijuana charges.
In five seasons, he caught 119 passes for 1,826 yard and 21 touchdowns
