I was over at the Patriots hotel this morning, which is a 10-minute drive from the JW Marriott. Things were very quiet and secluded at their hotel until the medial got there.
Bill Belichick took the podium first and the reporters wasted no time wondering the status of Rob Gronkowski. Belichick said he is doing better but didn’t know what he would be able to do in today’s practice. The uncertainty does not change the game place, according to Belichick.
The coach discussed how the team has changed personnel since 2007. Belichick said he started to take notice that players would need to be replaced a few seasons before guys retired or were traded away. He emphasized that this is a young man’s game.
A reporter asked Belichick about the Pro Bowl after Aaron Rodgers questioned the effort of players during the game.
“It isn’t now what it used to be,” said Belichick before he exited the room.
Tom Brady still seems miffed about turning the ball over to the Ravens during the AFC Championship. Following the game, Brady told the media he needs to do a better job.
Brady said he feeds off a guy like Vince Wilfork and doesn’t want to think about soon-to-be free agent Wes Welker. He called the Pro Bowl wide receiver a very good friend.
While Brady was telling a story about his dad while in the city of Buffalo, he took a cheap shot saying they are not the “nicest” hotels. Ouch. He better watch out the next time he’s in Buffalo for a game. He did go out of his way to say he was just kidding after the press conference was over.
The media was then let into a room where we were able to talk to every player and coach. The one image that is still burning in my memory is seeing tight end Aaron Hernandez wearing his jersey with sweat pants and Ugg boots.
I spoke to a few other players and you can see those raw iPhone videos below. My personal favorite is the video with Patrick Chung, who would not directly my answer if Victor Cruz will be doing some salsa dancing in the endzone this Sunday.
