Oddsmakers consider Monday night’s Giants-Dolphins game largely a toss-up. If it turns out to be a close game, as predicted, it should come as no surprise.

“Monday Night Football” is on a seven-game streak of games decided by eight points or fewer, tying a record for the series set in the middle of the 1974 season, when Frank Gifford, Howard Cosell and Alex Karras were the announcers.

The current streak does not include any Jets or Giants games.

The one in ’74 began with the Dolphins edging the Jets, 21-17, on Oct. 7. It ended with the Steelers blowing out the Saints, 28-7, at Tulane Stadium.

Seven weeks later the Steelers returned to Tulane Stadium and beat the Vikings, 16-6, for their first Super Bowl title.
