Fox announcers got escorts to games from U.S. marshals

According to a report released Monday from the Inspector General of the Department of Justice, Fox announcers Troy Aikman, Joe Buck, and Tim McCarver were improperly escorted by the United States Marshals Services.

The report was obtained by the Web site thesmokinggun.com

Members of the announcing trio were led to events such as the 2008 Super Bowl and 2007 World Series, with the onus of the impropriety falling on Joseph Band, who works in the General Counsel's office for the U.S. Marshals and arranged for the sportscasters to be escorted by armed federal marshals, according to a Jan. 9 report.

According to thesmokinggun.com, the U.S. marshal who was responsible for the escorts said he thought "the whole thing was silly," and "an inappropriate use of his time."

According to the inspector general report, the findings were enough for the U.S. Marshals' office to take "appropriate action," although federal prosecutors chose not to press criminal charges against Band.
