Annie Park of Levittown is turning to professional golf. She will leave USC after the end of this season, her junior year at the school, and join the Symetra Tour.

Park graduated early from MacArthur High School and went directly to the university in Los Angeles. She had immediate success in the 2013 season, winning the NCAA women's individual title and leading the Trojans to the championship.

She tried to gain an LPGA Tour card this past winter, and would have left college for the pros, but did not qualify. Park did, however, earn status on the preparatory Symetra Tour. She told Golfweek magazine before she turned 20 on April 9: "I'm not going to be 19 years old forever. I'm just making a move."

Kelly Shon of Port Washington, who played against Park frequently on the Long Island junior circuit, is a rookie on the LPGA Tour and contended for a victory during her debut this year in the Bahamas. ---- Mark Herrmann
