Annie Park wins AJGA Classic

Annie Park's successful season took another major step forward Thursday when she scored a sudden-death victory at the Lessings Classic, one of the big events on the American Junior Golf Association tour.

Park, 16, of Levittown, was tied with Cindy Ha of Demarest, N.J. at 4 over par through 54 holes at SkyView Golf Club. Then Park won on the second extra hole.

“This win means a lot to me, because it prepares me going into the Junior PGA tournament,” Park said. “I did a lot of things well this week, and I regained some confidence.”

She had started the final day two shots out of the lead, but rebounded.

It was the capper to a strong month for Park, who studies with Sean Foley, Tiger Woods' swing coach. She reached the semifinals of the U.S. Women's Public Links, defeating Cheyenne Woods (Tiger's niece) in the quarterfinal round. Then she made it through stroke-play qualifying at the U.S. Girls Junior Championship.
