Araskog, Park reach match play at U.S. Girls Junior

Annie Park of Levittown, who reached the semifinal round of the U.S. Women’s Amateur Public Links recently, and Caroline Araskog of Locust Valley, a top competitor in national junior events, both made it through two rounds of stroke play and advanced to match play at the U.S. Girls Junior Championship outside of Chicago.

Both were among players tied for 33rd at 7 over at Olympia Fields.

Park defeated Chyenne Woods, Tiger Woods' niece and a star at Wake Forest, in the national event.

Araskog, in a column about attracting young people to golf a year ago, said she was introduced to the game by a grandparent. “A lot of kids like team sports,” she said at the time. “Golf kind of depends on yourself and only yourself.”
