Media day at Atlantic Golf Club in Bridgehampton yesterday confirmed what a spectacular place it is. It was a beautiful day, unlike the raw afternoon last year when the Long Island Open was held there, so the richness of the vistas really stood out.

One of my colleagues among the East End reporters pointed out that many courses are built so that you really can't tell where you are. Not so with Atlantic, it's all Long Island, all South Fork, at every turn.

It definitely is worth seeing. They still need volunteers for the Mid-Amateur in late September. You can get info at the club's website. Or, when the tournament is held, just come as a spectator.

Too bad it's on a busy two-lane road that connects Bridgehampton and Sag Harbor, or else it would be a good place for the U.S. Women's Open or U.S. Amateur.
