Birdies were hard to come by at Pebble Beach on Thursday. In the first round of the U.S. Open, Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson, the top two players in the world, combined for the same number of birdies as you did.
Both attributed the lack of circles on their scorecard to those pesky poa annua greens, although Tiger blamed the greens themselves while Mickelson took more responsibility, blaming his putting.
Even par could be enough to take the Open this year. With Tiger at three-over 74 and Mickelson at four-over 75, both are still in striking distance but will need to overcome the firm greens.
We will be here all day to provide live coverage of the second round of the U.S. Open....
