Today, Pebble Beach is the way it is supposed to be through most of the week: overcast, mild but definitely not hot (in the 60s) and foggy. Fog usually means that the wind hasn't come in to blow the mist away. We'll see if it kicks up by thursady. Pebble Beach, like Sninnecock Hills, is a far different place and much more benign when the wind isn't up.
Tiger practiced early, as usual.
The only news so far is that Rocco Mediate, who played that memoable playoff with Woods at Torrey Pines the last time the U.S. Open was on the West Coast, is in the field. He was an alternate at secional qualifying and got in because Lee Westwood won in Memphis yesterday. The USGA was holding one spot open for any multiple PGA Tour winner through the St. Jude Classic. Westood already had qualified for the Open, so there was a spot for an alternate.
