Young golfers who want to impress college coaches will have an opportunity to do that in person at a tournament that organizers call a College Golf Combine. The concept is based on combines that are held in other sports, notably football. In those, athletes compete in various drills and are observed and measured by scouts.
The three-day college golf combine consists of a skills challenge, a 36-hole medal play tournament and a recruiting seminar for golfers and their parents. The nearest one will be June 27-29 at Ocean City, Md.
Tournament officials say that college coaches register in advance to attend. Each receives a book containing the resumes of all the participants.
