Caddies who are playing in an outing being held in their honor today at Cherry Valley Club in Garden City acknowledge that Dustin Johnson must hold final responsibility for the episode in the bunker that led to a two-stroke penalty and cost him a chance to be in the PGA Championship playoff.
But these men who love golf and make their livelihood from it expressed sympathy for the pro who couldn't really tell that he was in a bunker on No. 18 at Whistling Straits. As one caddie said, "He was robbed."
More on that in tomorrow's Newsday, and more on the caddies tournament--one of the most moving outings of the year because it is held in honor of a young caddie who died when he was hit by a car--in LI Golfbeat later this week.
