Lynch a master at time management

Dennis Lynch likes having a busy schedule. Last fall, he went right from the overnight shift as a Suffolk police officer to the Creek Club, where he won the Metropolitan Golf Association Mid-Amateur Championship. This week, he excelled at two local tournaments and qualified for two bigger ones.

Lynch shot 2-over-par 75 at Pine Hills Golf and Country Club in Manorville last Thursday to earn a return trip to the MGA Mid-Amateur. Chris O'Keefe was the medalist with a 70, followed by Mike Midgette's 71. Then on Tuesday, Lynch shot 4-under-par 138 over 36 holes at Bethpage Blue and was the medalist at a sectional qualifier for the U.S. Public Links. Fellow Long Islanders Jim Liu, 15, of Smithtown and Robert Cerabone of Commack also qualified at 140. The Public Links will be July 12-17 in Greensboro, N.C., with the winner getting an invitation to the Masters.
