Theresa Apoznanski of Nesconset, who helped establish the women’s golf program at NYU and led it to the ECAC Division II/III championship last fall, was honored by the school last week with the NYU Student-Athlete Academic Achievement Award.
The senior chose NYU for pre-med, turning down offers to play major college golf. But she did want the intercollegiate golf experience, so she pressed school officials to start a team for women. In the fall of her freshman year, the squad didn’t have enough golfers to play matches. By her final season, not only had she designed the team uniform, she had led it to a title.
“She is nothing but the perfect student-athlete,” said assistant coach Matt Huck, who is also the business manager for NYU.
She was honored during a ceremony last Wednesday at the NYU Palladium athletic facility. The biology major also was named NYU’s Senior Athlete of the Year.
