To quote Larry David, and most everyone else on the planet, "Having said that...."
Having said that the Champions Tour has it all over the PGA Tour today in terms of star power on the top of the leader board, it is nonetheless worth another look at why Paul Goydos is a compelling figure as he is tied for first with Dustin Johnson heading into the final round at Pebble Beach on the PGA Tour. It's worth mentioning every time Goydos is in contention, every time Goydos plays.
He's the one who left the tour for a while to raise his teenage children. His wife, their mom, had developed a drug dependency while battling a medical condition. The two separated and Goydos' wife ultimately lost her life.
Goydos carried on, being honest about his feelings and earnest about fatherhood. He has been back on tour for the past two seasons and jumps into the lead every now and then. He was a factor almost all the way through at the Barclays in Jersey City last year. He is one of the best golfers at articulating his thoughts and he has thoughts worth articulating.
It will be worth watching him today.
