Smithtown Landing's Hebron wins Met PGA award

Michael Hebron referred to the Metropolitan PGA as “the finest golf university in America.” If that is the case, then Hebron must be considered a distinguished professor in residence.

Hebron, director of golf at Smithtown Landing, was given the association’s Sam Snead Award for service to the PGA, the game of golf and the Met Section.

He cited his students and all patrons at local golf courses, saying, “Amateurs are the game. Without amateurs, we do not have a section.”

Upon receiving the 12th peer-elected award, he also said, “Today, I feel the Met PGA is the co-recipient.”

Hebron has taught or consulted in 30 of the 41 golf sections in the U.S., has authored five books and released three DVDs.

Also honored at the association’s forum Tuesday was former Cold Spring Country Club head pro John Kennedy, saluted for having won the national Horton Smith Award for service. Kennedy has been at Westchester Country Club for 21 years.
