Tiger Woods will have a powerhouse threesome the first two days of the U.S. Open. In groupings released minutes ago, it was revealed that Woods will start on the first hole at Pebble Beach at 4:36 Eastern Time Thursday with Lee Westwood, the Masters runnerup and one of the hottest golfers in the world this year, and an old rival Ernie Els, who has won two PGA Tour events this year. Els played with Woods in his first U.S. Open round, in 1995 at Shinnecock Hills when Els was defending U.S. Open champion and Woods was U.S. Amateur champion.
Phil Mickelson will start at 11:06 Eastern Time on the 10th hole Thursday in an interesting group, with three-time major champion Padraig Harrington and reigning PGA champion Y.E. Yang.
