There had been whispers before the Masters that Augusta National's greens, renowned for being slick as well as intensely contoured, were a tad slower this year. There was even a little background speculation that the winning score could be as low as 20 under par.
Here we are halfway through and Rory McIlroy is at 10 under. No less an Augusta authority than Tiger Woods said yesterday that the greens, while still fast by almost all golf standards, were "a step" slower than they have been.
Makes you wonder how they will look this afternoon, when Woods tees off at 2:35 and McIlroy starts at 2:45.
