Jeff Kidd’s 14-yard touchdown pass to James Higgins with 29 seconds remaining in the first half gave LIU Post a 14-6 lead at halftime, a lead that the visiting Pioneers never relinquished in a 14-12 win over Virginia Union.
Kidd was 13-for-33 passing for 103 yards, one touchdown and one interception. Pioneers running back David White had a team-high 16 carries for 75 yards.
The Pioneers’ defense combined for three interceptions against quarterback Shawheem Dowdy, including two by senior defensive back Jared Chester.
Virginia Union scored with 1:14 left in the fourth quarter, but failed on the two-point conversion. On the ensuing kickoff, Justin Ortiz recovered an onside kick to seal the win.
Nassau CC 25, Hocking 8: Niam Jones rushed for 125 yards and a touchdown for the Lions in in Nelsonville, Ohio.
Nassau CC sophomore free safety Jordan Franklin had 12 tackles. Jahmir Foman had a 25-yard interception return for a touchdown. He added 10 tackles and blocked a PAT. Nick Nigro chipped in eight tackles and one pass breakup for the Lions (1-1).
Freshman Ryan Tromblee had four punts for an average of 43, and added a 35-yard field goal as Nassau led 10-0 at halftime.
Quarterback Cameron Hayes found Jordan Barton with a 25-yard scoring pass in the third quarter. Jones closed the scoring for the Lions with his TD run early in the fourth quarter.
Hocking scored with three minutes left to prevent a Lions shutout.
The Lions face host Monroe CC at 6 p.m. Saturday.
